Product designers should also be familiar with business goals of the company they are working for.
Designers can be grouped according to their ability to solve problems. User interface designers are primarily responsible for creating interfaces or how things get displayed and selected in the windows of the computers. They are also the ones who create the icons, check boxes and labels on the screens. Visual designers deal more with the images and how they will affect the users when they use the product design process. In fact they are supposed to take full advantage of the screen real estate they have by designing attractive, effective and user-friendly interfaces.
Business goals are primarily concerned with the idea of making the product more saleable, functional and efficient in meeting customer needs. Since the product design process involves meeting several business goals at the same time, some designers specialize only in specific areas of the product design process.
Some product designers may also be involved in conducting usability tests. Usability testing is usually done before the actual product design goes into production. During the usability testing, the users will be asked to use the product and provide opinions about the product’s features and functions. After which, the designer may make changes or adjustments if necessary.
User research is another discipline where designers are trying to solve problems with people using a particular product. User research is very essential because the users will provide useful feedback that can help the designer to come up with innovative ideas. The problem solving ability of a designer is very important for this type of job. This profession requires designers to be resourceful, creative and intuitive at the same time.
