Early Ramadan 2021, the prices of these staples will increase

The Food Security Agency of the Ministry of Agriculture noted that there will be an increase in the price of basic commodities in the month of Ramadan 2021. However, this price increase only occurs at the beginning of the fasting month. The Head of BKP of the Ministry of Agriculture, Agung Hendriadi, said that his party did not deny that there was an increase in the price of staples at the beginning of Ramadan, because of the high demand. However, continued Agung, the price increase will gradually decrease during Ramadan. “Indeed, there is an increase in prices, I do not deny that before the month of Ramadan it rises, but during Ramadan it goes down, and it goes up again three days before Eid,” said Agung in a webinar.
Some of the staple commodities that have experienced an increase include the price of chickens, which on average rose to Rp 35 thousand. Likewise, chicken eggs have increased to Rp. 24 thousand per kg. “This is in one day, then during Ramadan it will go down, well before Eid it will rise again,” he said. Nevertheless, Agung ensured that the stock of staple foods during Ramadan was very sufficient. According to him, some of the basic commodities are fulfilled by the domestic market and some commodities are fulfilled through imports.
He added that the import decision was a decision at the coordination meeting at the ministerial level. “People don’t need to worry even though there are several commodities that are filled with imports, such as garlic, buffalo and beef, and sugar.”
