Arief S Trinugroho Asist. North Sumatra’s Economy and Development: Does Change and Developing Times Affect Change and Difference Challenges

The Civil Engineering Study Program in collaboration with the Civil Student Association and the Civil Engineering Association of the Faculty of Engineering, University of Medan Area and North Sumatra’s Economy and Development held an Online Seminar (Webinar) with the theme “Professional Civil Engineering in the Future Post COVID Pandemic 19 and the Industrial Revolution 4.0”. The seminar was conducted using a virtual meeting with the zoom application and live streaming on the Medan Area Area Youtube Channel on Saturday 4 July 2020.

This webinar was held publicly and was attended by hundreds of participants from several universities in Indonesia. The event was filled by Mr. Ir. Arief Trinugroho MT as the Assistant for the Economy and Development of the North Sumatra Provincial Government, Mr. Ir. Syafriadi as Chairperson of the Indonesian Project Scheduling Experts Association, Mr. Suranto ST MT as moderator, Ms. Nurmaidah MT as chair of the committee and chair of the Civil Engineering study program, and Dean of the Faculty of Engineering Mrs. Dr. Grace Yuswita Harahap, ST, MT.

Material presented by the first resource person by Mr. Ir. Arief Trinugroho, MT, related to “Civil Engineering Profession in the Future After the Covid-19 Pandemic and the 4.0 Industrial Revolution”. And the next material presented by Mr. Ir. Syafriadi discussed “Student Knowledge Capital for Starting Work in the Construction World”.

In this activity, the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering conveyed the message that this webinar delivered the main factor, namely the determination of a new form of professionalism to be able to identify and determine future steps in civil engineering in making changes that affect the academic/civil engineering curriculum of UMA, and the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering hopes that even lecturers UMA Civil Engineering students can be number 1 in education and the field

This activity was closed with the motivation of the speakers. The first by Mr. Ir. Arief Trinugroho MT said that the changes and developments of the era affect changes and differences in challenges so wherever we work we must be prepared to undergo those changes, added again with the 4.0 industrial revolution in the field of technology we must also be able to follow in conditions that can or cannot even be liked or don’t like it. Also because this change aims to make it easier. Then make yourself different from others, because each person must have their positive characteristics. And practice our soft skills from now on, in any field. Do not make seniors as a reference that their knowledge is better, even juniors have innovations and new and fresh thoughts to learn.

And also Mr. Ir. Syafriadi conveyed that the younger generation would realize that who is the substitute for people who are now far above. Students are the ones who will replace all of these positions, and it is hoped that with the development of the age, science will develop more and make students more prepared and better to replace existing positions. Students are okay and they don’t know a lot of things, because that’s one of the things that make students find out everything to prepare in the work world later.

This activity went well until the end of the whole series of events. Some participants’ questions were answered by the speakers clearly and received very positive responses from all participants. We strongly support the online seminar activities carried out, the Civil Engineering Study Program UMA has provided a good example, especially amid this Covid-19 pandemic can carry out this online seminar (webinar). It is hoped that this seminar can produce breakthroughs during the Covid-19 pandemic.
